MIKE TRAMP: 'Unlike VINCE NEIL, I Never Fucked Over People'
April 21, 2004Former WHITE LION frontman Mike Tramp recently spoke to Australia's Beat magazine about his current life in Australia and his solo career. Asked if there is still a place for the classic rock star today, Mike said, "In the '80s and '90s we saw the last of the real decadent rock stars. You look around today and most of the big rock stars are gone. You get a band like THE DARKNESS, they’re simply re-living something they saw on a video clip as they were growing up. They're trying to make SPINAL TAP serious. The real rock stars, like Bowie in the '70s 'Ziggy' era, are gone. You look at Ozzy, he's on TV and he’s really popular today, but most people are laughing at him and that's sad.
"I lived that whole rock star dream. When WHITE LION were massive, and you're surrounded by money and fame, it's hard not to get sidetracked. I don't think I changed as a person. It's just kinda funny when you get an accountant trying to talk to you about a retirement plan, but all you want to do is go out and pay cash for the latest sports car.
"Compare Vince Neil (MÖTLEY CRÜE vocalist) and myself. I sure went out and wasted my money but I never lost respect for people. It's not strange to be where I am today because this is where I was when it all started and through it all I'm still the same person. Unlike Vince, I never became a boozer, a druggie and never fucked over people. We sure had a great time doing what we did, but as the story goes the Ferrari got repossessed and today we are all equal." Read the rest of the interview here.
